Colonels’ DeMaio to compete for Coastal Carolina

WINCHESTER — James Wood High School senior MiKayla DeMaio earned a spot on next year’s Coastal Carolina University cheerleading team during a three-day tryout held by the school on May 2-4.

DeMaio was a captain this year for the Colonels, who placed fourth at the Group 4A state meet.

DeMaio also competes for the Chantilly-based Cheer Tyme Love in all-star competition. The team — which also features Millbrook senior Meredith Ricketts and Sherando junior Emmalee Strosnider — placed fifth at the Cheerleading Worlds in the Large Senior Level 5 division at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., during the weekend of April 26-27. The competition aired on ESPN this past weekend.
