THE PLAINS- Millbrook senior Crystal Nelson took first place with a time of 17 minutes, 58 seconds at the Octoberfest Invitational at Great Meadow on Saturday.

Nelson, who posted a 35-second victory over Ocean Lakes senior runner-up Audrey Batzel, paced the Pioneers to 13th place.

Millbrook senior Karly Knechtel (12th, 19:20), Sophia Lee (21:17), Brooke Hagenbuch (21:39) and Simone Jarvis (22:08) completed the team's scoring five.

James Wood, led by Samantha Ratcliffe (52nd, 20:38), finished 18th out of 22 girls' teams. Amber Hawkins (21:01), Madeline Long (21:07), Daniele Ray (21:53) and Molly Farinholt (23:12) rounded out the Colonels' top five.

Morgantown (W.Va.) won the girls' race.

In the boys' race, James Wood finished 11th out of 29 teams. Joe Davet (25th, 16:45) led the way for the Colonels. Danny Aldstadt (16:53) followed in 29th, and Luke Farinholt (17:45), Jacob Sunderlin (17:59) and Dylan Wilson (18:00) completed the Colonels' team scoring.

Millbrook, led by Warren Ramirez (17:47) in 92nd place, came in 27th.

Annandale senior Ahmed Bile (15:32) won the boys' race, and Blacksburg claimed the team title.

Clarke County's Zach Campbell (17:01) took fifth in the 'B' race.
