CROSS COUNTRY

WINCHESTER- The Handley boys clinched the Northwestern District regular season title by edging James Wood in a tiebreaker in Wednesday's dual meet.

Each team scored 28 points, but Handley (7-1 Northwestern) won because its sixth runner finished ahead of the Colonels' No. 6. The Judges were led by individual winner Chris Arslan (17 minutes, 42 seconds), who won by six seconds. The Judges were also paced by Jim Thomson (fifth in 18:15) and Chase Anders (sixth in 18:21).

James Wood runners took second through fourth, with Joe Davet (17:48) followed by Danny Aldstadt (17:51) and Luke Farinholt (18:12).

Handley (7-1) won the girls' race by forfeit over the Colonels, who did not have the necessary five runners to score as a team. The Judges were led by Cindy Quarles (first in 21:30), Ashden Personius (second in 21:48) and Abby Swartz (third in 22:22).

The Colonels were led by Madeline Long (fourth in 22:25), Molly Farinholt (seventh in 23:33) and Daniele Ray (ninth in 23:42).
