From Star staff reports

WINCHESTER — James Wood senior Chris Alaniz has been selected to represent the state of Virginia in the 3rd annual 2012 Chesapeake Bowl All-Star game, according to his father David Alaniz.

A three-year starter on the offensive line for the Colonels, the 6-foot-4, 290-pound Alaniz was evaluated at an invitation-only event in Landover, Md., in May by former NFL and college players, college coaches, top area high school coaches and Rivals.com scout Mike Farrell.

The Chesapeake Bowl is a high school senior-only invitational all-star game with top players playing for the North (New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware) and South (Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia and West Virginia) teams.

The game is scheduled to be played at 1 p.m. on Dec. 29.
