Wood's Schrantz one of 65 recruits for SU football

Star Staff Report

WINCHESTER — James Wood graduate Isaac Schrantz is one of 65 newcomers for the Shenandoah University football team, whose roster was released by fifth-year head coach Scott Yoder on Wednesday.

A 6-foot, 220-pound freshman defensive end, Schrantz recorded 49 tackles (eight for loss), 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles last year. Schrantz was a second team All-Conference 21 West selection.

Yoder — whose team opened practice on Wednesday — also has 60 returnees, including junior wide receiver and Millbrook graduate Adrian DeNeal.

The team will practice on grass for the remainder of the week before moving to the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf on Saturday.

SU — which went 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the ODAC last year — will open its 2017 season at home at 7 p.m. on Sept. 2 in a non-league game versus Gallaudet.
