Wood’s Golf Team Wins Skyline Invitational

FRONT ROYAL — James Wood won the team competition and Sherando freshman Brett Loy won the individual competition Tuesday at the sixth annual Skyline Hawk Invitational Golf Tournament on the Red and White nines at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club.

The Colonels won the 11-team tournament with a four-player score of 316, three better than runner-up Giles (319).

Sherando was third (325), Millbrook was fourth (344), Clarke County was sixth (353) and Handley was 10th (376).

The Colonels were led by Will Holmes (78), Roger Repasky and Peyton Crickman (79) and Josh Akeley (80).

Loy shot an even-par 71 to best Gunar Frazier of Giles (72) by one stroke.

Other top local golfers were Clarke County’s Brandon Dang, who shot a 77 and finished sixth, and Sherando’s Jonah Pearson, who along with Holmes tied for seventh with a 78.

Millbrook was led by Brian McGuire (82) and Handley was led by Jamie Miller (87).
