Hillyard earn 4A all-state 2nd team volleyball honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Seniors Savanna Pearson of Millbrook and Megan Hillyard of James Wood were named to the Group 4A all-state volleyball second team released by the Virginia High School League on Wednesday.

Pearson, an outside hitter, had 179 kills and 128 digs through 19 matches for Millbrook, which finished 20-3. Pearson was previously named to the 4A West Region first team and was named Conference 21 West Player of the Year. She helped the Pioneers win the Conference 21 West regular season title, the Northwestern District title, and advance to the 4A West Region quarterfinals.

Hillyard, a setter, had 499 assists, 147 digs and 36 aces through 19 matches for James Wood, which finished 22-4. She helped the Colonels win the Conference 21 West tournament and advance to the Group 4A state semifinals.

State champion Loudoun County earned state Player of the Year honors (senior Hailey Rubino) and Coach of the Year honors (Sherilyn Hanna).
