Terenzi, who served as the Hornets’ coach from 2010 to 2018, takes over for P.W. Hillyard, who resigned in December after three seasons as head coach for the Colonels.

Terenzi amassed a 130-138 record at SU, including 31-47 over the past seven seasons in ODAC play. In her best season, the Hornets went 18-10 overall and placed fifth in the ODAC with a 7-4 mark. SU was 10-16 overall, 4-8 in the ODAC this past season.

She inherits a team that went 53-22 under Hillyard. The Colonels finished 16-8 this past season and advanced to the Class 4 Northwestern District semifinals.

Hillyard’s daughter Megan, a former James Wood standout, played the past two seasons as a setter for Terenzi at SU.

Prior to coming to SU, Terenzi spent nearly two years serving as volleyball coach and assistant athletic director at Newbury College in Massachusetts. She is also a co-founder and coach with the Blue Ridge Volleyball Association.

“I’m looking forward to joining the James Wood High School family and working to build upon the school’s outstanding volleyball program,” Terenzi said in a news release. “Thanks to my involvement with the Blue Ridge Volleyball Association, I’m familiar with many of the players who will be returning to James Wood next year as well as those who will be moving up from the middle school level. I can’t wait to get into the gym and begin working with the girls in preparation for the upcoming season.”

Terenzi was the co-head women’s volleyball coach at Wheaton (Mass.) College and the head volleyball coach at both La Salle (R.I.) Academy and Seekonk (Mass.) High School.

At La Salle, Terenzi headed up both the boys’ and girls’ programs. In 2007, her teams won Rhode Island state championships, winning 80 of 81 matches. She received a pair of Coach of the Year honors.

Terenzi is a 1998 graduate of Springfield (Mass.) College, where she played three seasons on the volleyball team.

“Coach Terenzi is passionate about volleyball and working with student athletes,” James Wood coordinator of student activities Craig Woshner said in the news release. “She possesses a great deal of knowledge and experience which will serve her well as she transitions to her new role as the leader of our volleyball program.”
