Volleyball 4th in Daily Poll

The Northern Virginia Daily Sports staff collaborated to create a top 10 volleyball list. Each staffer voted, with 10 points being awarded to the top ranked team, nine to the No. 2 team and so on. Numbers in parentheses indicate where each team was last week.

1. Strasburg (1), 13-1, 4-0 Bull Run -- Still undefeated since their season opening loss to Sherando, and with a new rotation which moves Stephanie Conde to the back row, the Rams will lose little offense when hitter Jenna Smoot comes off the court.

2. Sherando (tie. 2), 9-5, 3-1 Northwestern -- The Warriors have been chewing teams up and spitting them out ever since they reverted back to their 5-1 formation. They throttled defending West Virginia Class AAA state champion Musselman 3-1 Tuesday.

3. Millbrook (4), 11-2, 2-1 Northwestern -- After losing to Sherando in three sets, the Pioneers have rebounded nicely with wins over James Wood and Musselman.

4. James Wood (tie. 2), 7-5, 1-1 Northwestern -- Hitter Emily Shannon has returned to the court from a recent injury by racking up 134 kills, fourth best in the area. 5. Clarke County (5), 7-4, 3-0 Bull Run -- The Eagles' latest district victim? A three-set sweep of Rappahanock County.

6. Stonewall Jackson (6), 5-8, 1-2 Shenandoah -- Heather Stout leads the area in kills, (232), and Whitney Wilkins leads the area in assists (351).

7. Central (7), 5-7, 1-2 Shenandoah -- After dropping their first two district wins, the Falcons have a chance to make it two wins in a row at Page County tonight.

8. Handley (8), 5-8, 0-3 Northwestern -- The Judges' schedule doesn't get any easier following their Wednesday loss to Sherando: They travel to James Wood and to Millbrook.

9. Skyline (9), 4-8, 1-1 Northwestern -- Skyline, too, faces a tough district schedule, playing James Wood and Millbrook before getting a non-district match against rival Warren County.

10. Warren County (10), 1-12, 0-2 Evergreen -- As the Wildcats fall further into district play, they're still searching for their second win of the season.
