James Wood girls' soccer players Padgett, Mounts sign with Division III schools

WINCHESTER — James Wood girls’ soccer players Katie Padgett (DeSales University) and Maddy Myers (University of Lynchburg) each signed with NCAA Division III schools in a ceremony on Wednesday at the high school.

A forward, Padgett leads James Wood with seven goals and also has three assists. As a junior, Padgett led the Colonels with 23 goals and 18 assists and was named to the Region 4C second team and the Class 4 Northwestern District first team. Padgett will major in criminal justice for DeSales, which is located in Center Valley, Pa., and competes in the Mid-American Conference Freedom division.

The Bulldogs went 8-8-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play in the fall.

A midfielder, Myers has four goals and four assists for the Colonels this season. As a junior, Myers had four goals and five assists and was named to the Class 4 Northwestern District team.

Lynchburg went 20-3-3 overall and was 7-1-2 to finish in a three-way tie for first during the Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season. The Hornets went on to win the ODAC Tournament and advance to the NCAA Division III tournament quarterfinals, where they lost to Christopher Newport. It was Virginia Wesleyan’s deepest tournament run since winning the NCAA Tournament in 2014.
