Millbrook pulls out girls' tennis win over James Wood

WINCHESTER — No. 2 doubles team Shanna Marin and Christina Gutilla won in a tiebreaker as Millbrook topped James Wood 5-4 in a Conference 21 West girls’ tennis match on Wednesday.

The match was squared 3-3 after singles. No. 1 Cecilia Cress (10-0), No. 2 Kyle Buza (10-6) and No. 6 Zoe Ackerman (10-5) won for the Pioneers (7-1, 2-1 conference). No. 3 Lily Kimble (10-2), No. 4 Carlee Gosline (10-1) and No. 5 Morgan Burner (10-4) took singles matches for the Colonels.

No. 1 Cress and Buza rolled 10-4 in the only doubles match that didn’t go to a tiebreaker. No. 3 Gosline and Courtney Dyer won 11-10 (7-5 in the tiebreaker) against Abbey Taylor and Ackerman.

The deciding match between Marin and Gutilla against Kimble and Burner went even deeper in the tiebreaker. Marin and Gutilla pulled out the win 11-10, with an 11-9 win in the tiebreaker.
