James Wood's Anderson to play softball at Shepherd

WINCHESTER — James Wood’s power-hitting catcher Lindsey Anderson signed to play softball in the fall at Shepherd University during a ceremony recently at Ridge Field.

Anderson, The Winchester Star’s Player of the Year in 2016, has consistently ranked among the area’s top hitters for average, home runs and RBIs since she became a starter as a freshman. Anderson hit .429 with five homers and 27 RBIs as a freshman and followed that up with a .449 average, with eight homers and 36 RBIs. Last season Anderson hit .500 with three homers and 30 RBIs.

Currently Anderson is third in the area with a .516 average and is tied for the lead with 17 RBIs. She has homered twice.

Anderson becomes the third area player to sign with Shepherd, joining teammate Lani Spielman and Sherando’s Tori Seymour.

Shepherd, led by coach Marissa Leslie, had a 25-11 record this season entering Tuesday’s doubleheader against Lock Haven, Pa. The Rams, located in Shepherdstown, W.Va., went 41-22 in 2017.
