MARTINSBURG, W.Va.- James Wood freshman pitcher Kierstyn Peacoe struck out a school-record 17 batters to lead the Colonels' softball team to a 5-1 non-district win over Martinsburg (W.Va.) Thursday.

Peacoe (one earned run, three hits, two walks) struck out the side in the second, fourth, sixth and seventh innings in setting a new standard and improving to 9-1. The previous record of 15 was shared by Natalie Burns (2007) and Leora Brannon (2002).

"I'm very pleased with her peformance," James Wood coach Ted McDaniel said. "She kept the ball down and really ran the ball in on the right-handers."
