Chris Smith — Sherando — Junior — Jumps, Mid. Dist.

The area’s best in the high jump. Smith placed first in the high jump in Group AA (6-5), Region II and the Northwestern District. Smith was fourth in the district in the triple jump. Smith also ran on the 4x400 team that placed seventh in Group AA (3:27.75).

Joey Bynog — Wood — Senior — Throws

Bynog placed seventh in Group AA in the discus (143-4). In Region II, Bynog placed sixth in the discus. In the Northwestern District, Bynog placed second in the discus.

Derek Dowrey — Handley — Senior — Throws

The area’s best in the shot put. Dowrey placed fourth in Group AA in the shot put (51-11) and placed fourth in the discus (148-5). In Region II and in the Northwestern District, Dowrey placed first in the shot put and third in the discus.

Devon Newman — Sherando — Senior — Jumps, Mid. Dist.

The area’s best in the long jump and 400. Newman placed sixth in Group AA in the long jump (21-9 ½) and tied for eighth in the high jump (6-0). In Region II, Newman placed first in the long jump and triple jump and sixth in the high jump. In the Northwestern District, Newman placed first in the 400, long jump and triple jump and second in the high jump. Newman also ran on the 4x400 team that placed seventh in Group AA (3:27.75).

Justin Neff — Millbrook — Junior — Throws

The area’s best in the discus. Neff placed second in Group AA in the discus (155-0). In Region II, Neff placed first in the discus. In the Northwestern District, Neff placed first in the discus and sixth in the shot put.

Travis Ritter — Sherando — Senior — Throws

Ritter placed fifth in Group AA in the shot put (51-3 ¾). In Region II, Ritter placed third in the shot put. In the Northwestern District, Ritter placed second in the shot put and fourth in the discus.

John Simms — Wood — Senior — Sprints

The area’s best in the 100. Simms, last year’s Winchester Star Boys’ Track and Field Athlete of the Year, placed 14th in Group AA in the 100. In the Northwestern District, Simms placed first in the 100 and fifth in the 200.
