Winchester Star Girls’ Athlete Of The Year Runner Up

amberCross Country: Finishing fourth overall with a time of 19 minutes, one second at the Group AA state meet, Hawkins is the only area runner (girls or boys) to earn all-state honors this season. She also won both the Northwestern District (19:45) and Region II (18:26) championships. Hawkins, The Star’s Girls’ Cross Country Runner of the Year, set a personal record of 18:19 at the Third Battle Invitational. .

Indoor Track: Hawkins finished sixth (5:17.59) and eighth in the 1,000 meters (3:08.06) at the Group AA State Indoor Championship at Lynchburg. At the Region II meet at Louisa, she finished as the runner-up in both the 1,000 (3:15.05) and 1,600 (5:24.75).

Outdoor Track: Hawkins was the area’s best in the 1,600 (5:08.38) and 3,200 (11:05.07). In the 3,200, Hawkins recorded her season best to place fourth in Group AA. In the 1,600, Hawkins was seventh in Group AA (5:16.59), second in Region II, and was Northwestern District champion. In the 800, Hawkins was second in the district. She will run for the University of Houston next year.
