HIGH SCHOOL TRACK - Colonel boys finish 4th at Wildcat Invit.

STAFFORD — James Wood’s Matt Vitagliano won the triple jump and Logan Shiffler took first in the discus to lead the Colonels’ boys’ track team to fourth place at the 19-team Wildcat Invitational at Mountain View High School on Saturday.

Vitagliano won the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 81/2 inches, and Shiffler took first in the discus with a throw of 132-6 and he placed seventh in the shot put (41-10).

Owen Bales took third in the 300-meter hurdles (43.90) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.99). Sawyer Michelitch placed fourth in the long jump (19-71/2), and Landon Rutherford placed sixth in the shot put (42-10) for the Colonels.

DeMatha won the boys’ meet with 85 points followed by Gonzaga (62), Tuscarora (51) and James Wood (41).

Millbrook’s boys, led by Alec Schrank’s runner-up performance in the 3,200 (9:55.68) and Tyler Cox-Philyaw’s third-place finish in the 800 (2:00.37), placed 15th.

In the girls’ meet, Grace Greene took third in the shot put (32-81/2), and teammate Sarah Johnson placed sixth in the shot (30-1) and seventh in the discus (84-5). The Colonels’ Loralee Tyler took sixth in the discus (85-4).

James Wood’s Emma Hammond placed fifth in the high jump (4-6), and Becca Ferrulli took eighth in the triple jump (30-83/4) .

Millbrook’s McKenzie Schrank placed second in the 300 hurdles (49.70) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.09), and teammate Nadia Dahimene placed fourth in the 3,200 (11.40.99) .

The Pioneers’ Mia VanderToorn took fifth in the triple jump (32-01/2) , and teammate Lindsay Lockhart came in third in the discus (96-7).

South County won the girls’ meet with 1411/2 points followed by Oakton (79) and Maggie Walker (57). James Wood took eighth, and Millbrook followed in ninth.
