James Wood's Grove breaks 52-year-old school record in boys' discus

WINCHESTER — James Wood junior Chance Grove broke a 52-year-old school record in the discus with a mark of 162 feet and 8 inches to highlight action at the Class 4 Northwestern District mini track and field meet on Wednesday at James Wood. Grove broke the previous mark of 161-1 set by Chuck Marks in 1966. The Colonels won both the boys and girls competitions.

Boys team scores: 1. James Wood 103.5, 2. Sherando 88, 3. Handley 85, 4. Fauquier 36, 5. Millbrook 18.5.

Girls team scores: 1. James Wood 113.5, 2. Millbrook 75.5, 3. Sherando 46, 4. Fauquier 41.5, 5. Handley 31.5.

Boys event winners: James Wood — Shot put: Dominic Revetta, 47-2; Discus: Chance Grove, 162-8 (broke Chuck Marks’ record of 161-1 set in 1966); 4x800: 9:03.5; 1,600: Ethan Pierce, 4:47.8; 4x100: 44.3; 400: Tyler Ostinato, 53.8; 800: Nathan Shade, 2:09.8; 200: William Crowder, 23.0; 4x400: 3:47.7. Sherando — Long jump: Aaron Banks, 19-1.25; Triple jump: T.J. Washington, 44-9; 300 hurdles: Kyle Holliday, 41.9. Handley — High jump: Tyson Long, 5-8; 110 hurdles: Max Doerwaldt, 15.8; 100: Kobi Vance, 11.4.
