Colonel boys win Last Chance meet

WINCHESTER- The James Wood boys' track and field team edged Clarke County by four points to win the Last Chance Invitational Friday night at Millbrook High School.

The Colonels scored 98 points and the Eagles scored 94 to lead the 14-team field. Millbrook was fourth with 57 points, Sherando was fifth with 52 and Handley tied for ninth with 29.

James Wood was led by Cody Wright, who took first in the 800 meters (2 minutes, 0.59 seconds) and the 1,600 (4:33.52). Also taking first for the Colonels were John Simms (100, 11.25) and the 4x400 team (3:32.30)., which featured Wright, Simms, Mason Smith and Ben Jenkins.

Clarke County was led by Ron Anderson, who took first in the 110 hurdles (15.81), high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) and long jump (20-9). The Eagles 4x100 team also took first (44.51).

Millbrook was led by Ryan Farnan, who took first in the 3,200 (9:39.87). Handley's 4x800 team was first in 8:24.95.

In the girls' meet, North Stafford led the way with 106 points. King George was second (83 points), Millbrook was third (68), Sherando was fifth (57), Clarke County was sixth (46), James Wood was seventh (42) and Handley was 13th (13).

The Pioneers had three individual winners - Presley Parkes in the 800 (2:26.21), Crystal Nelson in the 3,200 (11:15.66) and Shelby Feliciano in the 300 hurdles (49.80). Those three also teamed up, along with Karly Knechtel, on the winning 4x800 team (9:52.78).

Sherando's Lauren Wilkins won two events, taking the long jump (16-4) and triple jump (35-8).
