Hawks’ boys down Wood

Front Royal — As he dribbled near the far sideline, Skyline’s Terrell Mathews gave just enough of a look to teammate Andrew Thorne streaking toward the basket off the right baseline.
In a flash, Mathews sent a perfect lob to Thorne, who rose high and slammed home a dunk.
“Me and Terrell had a little (eye) contact,” Thorne said. “He threw it and I went and got it.”
The first of Thorne’s two dunks was just what the Hawks needed for a kick-start late in the third period to pull away from James Wood High School Friday night. Skyline broke open what was a close game most of the way for a 64-51 Northwestern District boys’ basketball victory, keeping pace with idle Handley for first place.
