James Wood boys win on last-second free throw

BOONSBORO, Md. — Ben Sear made his final free throw attempt with 0.2 seconds left as James Wood rallied to a 59-58 victory against Brunswick, Md., in the Boonsboro (Md.) Holiday boys’ basketball tournament on Tuesday.

The Colonels (4-4) rallied from a six-point deficit after three quarters to take a 58-56 lead. Brunswick got even with a pair of free throws with 5.4 seconds left, but Sear was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer. Sear missed his first two free throw attempts but made the third as the Colonels advanced to face host Boonsboro in today’s final at 5 p.m.

Sam Costin and Vinny Lew spurred the comeback James Wood, which was without starter Noah Sullivan. Costin had a double-double with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. Lew added nine points, seven assists and four steals.

 Aidan Houser also netted 11 points.
