Defense keys league-leading Millbrook girls

Winchester — It took 11 minutes for Heather Armel to get off her first shot Friday night, more than 13 minutes for her to score and 21 minutes to find her first field goal.

Suffice it to say Millbrook freshman Sara Mead did her job shadowing James Wood High School’s all-district guard.

“She’s a mosquito that buzzes around you when you’re trying to go to sleep,” Millbrook coach Debby Sanders said of Mead, after the Pioneers’ 59-41 win at Shirley Gymnasium. “She doesn’t give in. She’s got nerves of steel, she plays hard and she gives it everything she has to give us.”
