James Wood girls cruise into district semifinals
WINCHESTER — James Wood outscored Fauquier in every quarter as the Colonels cruised to a 58-29 romp in the opening round of the Northwestern District girls’ basketball tournament on Tuesday at Shirley Gymnasium.
The third-seeded Colonels (17-6) now travel to No. 2 Liberty (16-5) in the semifinals on Thursday. The Eagles defeated James Wood twice during the regular season.
Leading 11-4 after one quarter, the Colonels blew the game open by outscoring Fauquier 20-9 in the second period.
Amber Wooldridge led James Wood with 20 points and four steals. Makayla Firebaugh added 14 points and seven rebounds. Donyell Sloane scored 10 points (on a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor) and grabbed seven boards.
