Wood girls to play for tourney title

WINCHESTER — The James Wood girls’ basketball team advanced to today’s championship game of the inaugural James Wood Holiday Basketball Tournament with a 41-32 semifinal win over Jefferson (W.Va.) on Friday.

The Colonels (6-3) will take on Musselman (W.Va.) in today’s title game at 3 p.m. The Applemen beat Riverside 55-51 in overtime in Friday’s first semifinal game.

Makalya Firebaugh scored a game-high 21 points for James Wood (6-3) against Jefferson, 18 of which helped the Colonels take a 30-21 halftime lead. James Wood led 35-27 after three quarters.
