BOYS’ INDOOR TRACK

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Handley scored 90 points to edge defending champion Loudoun Valley by one point at the Region 4C meet on Friday night at Hagerstown Community College.

Cooper Dawson led the way for the Judges, taking first in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and long Jump (20-5) and taking second in the triple jump (39-0¾).

Also for Handley, Jack Armel won the pole vault (13-0) and took second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.42 seconds), Miles Ashe won the 55 (6.74) and Ashe, Dawson, Isaiah Lowry and Jayden Vardaro teamed to win the 4x200 (1:38.26).

The long jump and triple jump took place on Wednesday at Loudoun County High School.

Sherando was fourth in the 12-team meet with 49 points, James Wood was ninth with 20 and Millbrook was 12th with 9.

The top three individuals and top three relays in each event as well as those meeting state-qualifying standards advanced to the Class 4 state meet on Feb. 22 and 23 at Roanoke College.

Other state qualifiers by place:

Handley: Lowry, 2nd, high jump, 5-7; Quinton Newman, 3rd, shot put, 46-0½; Vardaro, 3rd, 55, 6.86.

Sherando: Isaiah Allen, 1st, shot put, 57-1; Ty Waits, 1st, 500, 1:08.14; James Harris, 2nd, 3,200, 10:07.72; Riley O’Connor, 3rd, 55 hurdles, 8.70.

James Wood: Logan Owens, 1st, triple jump, 39-6½.
