Indoor track: Region 4D Meet

AMHERST — Handley's Emeryce Worrell won two individual events and was part of a winning relay team as she led locals in the Region 4D indoor track & field meet on Monday.

The meet was held outdoors at Amherst County High School. It was originally scheduled to be indoors on Saturday at Roanoke College until it was postponed. The facility at Roanoke College was not available on Monday.

James Wood's Ethan Pratt-Perez and Handley's Jaishaun Offutt captured individual crowns in the 15-team boys' competition.

James Wood's girls had the best team finish among the locals, placing third with 54 points. Blacksburg dominated the girls' scoring with 199.5 points, finishing well ahead of runner-up Charlottesville (72).

Worrell, a junior, took titles in the 55-meter dash (7.03 seconds) and the 300 (40.74). She joined Madison Hobson, Elisabeth Pitcock and EJ Mullins to capture the 4x200 relay in 1:45.43.

Led by Pratt-Perez, the James Wood boys finished eighth to lead the local teams with 31.5 points. Handley (27) and Sherando (21) were ninth and 10th, respectively, while Millbrook (6) was 15th.

Pratt-Perez captured the 1,600 in 4:34.55. Handley's Offutt took the shot put with a heave of 52 feet, 8.25 inches.

The top three finishers in each event qualified for the Class 4 state meet, to be held Feb. 26-27 at Liberty University.

Millbrook: 2. Janai Washington (5-0 in the high jump); 3. Jillian Taylor (30-8.5 in the shot put); Savannah Florek (1:20.79 in 500); 4x400 relay (Jada Arrington, Caydence Bayne, Florek, Washington) 4:22.25; 4x800 relay (Addison Stover, McCurry, Florek, Bayne).

Boys

James Wood: 3. Pratt-Perez (2:37.50 in the 1,000); Eli Clark (4:27.91 in the 1,600).

Handley: 2. Will Thomas (9:38.28 in the 3,200); 3. Hassan Akanbi (8.21 in the 55 hurdles).

Sherando: 2. Noah Harris (6-2 in the high jump).

Millbrook: 3. Elijah McGee (1:07.41 in the 1,000).
