Class 4 State Indoor Track - Day 2

LYNCHBURG — Handley junior Emeryce Worrell won two individual events and contributed to a winning relay in the girls’ meet at the Class 4 indoor state track and field championships on Tuesday to conclude the two-day competition at Liberty University.

Worrell won the 55 meters by nine-hundredths of a second with a time of 7.02 seconds. Atlee senior Josie Rempe took second in 7.11 and Millbrook junior Jada Arrington was fourth in 7.31.

Worrell and Arrington took first and second, respectively, in the 300, with Worrell recording a 39.39 to Arrington’s 39.85.

In between those two events, Worrell teamed with senior Madison Hobson and freshmen Elisabeth Pitcock and EJ Mullins to win the 4x200 relay in 1:43.85, 1.97 seconds ahead of Churchland.

Those three victories led Handley to a fifth-place finish with 32 points. Atlee won with 97 and Blacksburg was second with 68.5. Millbrook tied for 13th with 15 points, James Wood was 23rd with 7, and Sherando took 25th with 4.

In the boys’ meet, Handley senior Will Pardue, the defending state champion in the 3,200, took second in 9:22.05 behind Loudoun Valley senior Ty Blair (9:21.12). James Wood senior Ethan Pratt-Perez placed third in 9:24.45.

Atlee won the boys’ meet with 54 points and Jefferson Forest was second with 38.5. Handley tied for sixth with 27 points, James Wood tied for 22nd with 8, Sherando tied for 29th with 6, and Millbrook tied for 36th with 4.

Other top 10 performances:

Handley girls: Mullins, seventh in 500, 1:19.60.

James Wood girls: Alina Kieffer, fourth in 3,200, 11:30.31; Mackenzie Sine, seventh in shot put, 33-0.5; Ruby Ostrander, ninth in 1,600, 5:22.61.

Handley boys: Hassan Akanbi, second in high jump, 6-6; Will Thomas, eighth in 3,200, 9:41.73.

Millbrook boys: Elijah McGee, fifth in 500, 1:07.84.

Sherando boys: Dylan McGraw, sixth in 1,600, 4:26.00.

James Wood boys: Eli Clark, seventh in 1,600, 4:26.06.
