Judges, Colonels split dual meet

WINCHESTER — The Handley boys won 93-77 and the James Wood girls won 89-81 in the opening Northwestern District dual meet Friday night at the War Memorial Building in Jim Barnett Park.

The Handley boys were led by individual double winner Alex Day (50-meter freestyle in 29.2 seconds and 100 free in 1:02.86) while the James Wood boys were paced by individual double winner Connor Babington (100 butterfly in a state-qualifying time of 1:03.63 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.94).

In the girls’ meet, James Wood was paced by three individual double winners in Erin Jackson (200 free in 2:34.4 and 100 fly in 1:22.5), Sara Fergus (200 individual medley in 2:50.14 and 100 backstroke in 1:20.79) and Abby Fergus (50 free in 32.64 and 400 free in 5:39.26). Handley’s Liz Grove also won two individual events, the 100 free in 1:05.08 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:23.43.
