Swimming: Pioneers top Colonels

WINCHESTER — Millbrook High School’s swim team swept a Northwestern District dual meet with James Wood Friday night.

The Pioneer girls edged Wood 86-83, and Millbrook’s boys won 99-70.

In the girls’ meet, Millbrook’s Abbey Esslinger won both the 200 individual medley (2:39.99) and the 100 breaststroke (1:26.87) and teamed with Emily Lowman, Sarah Jeffries and Lindsay Fairbanks for another win in the 400 free relay (4:45.43). Fairbanks was also a double winner, taking first in both the 200 free (2:20.89) and 400 free (5:02.81).

Millbrook’s individual winners on the boys’ side included Hunter Doherty in the 200 free (2:17.67); Chris Patton in the 100 free (1:00.62); Alex Morrow in the 400 free (4:42.68) and Mark Paxton in the 100 back (1:17.87).

James Wood’s boys were led by Conor Babington, who won both the 100 breast (1:18.58) and 50 free (26.25), and Brian Baker, who took first in both the 200 I.M. (2:32.09) and 100 fly (1:04.76).

James Wood’s individual winners in the girls’ meet included Sara Fergus in the 50 free (30.89); Zoe Schopick in the 100 fly (1:12.35); Lydia Sunderlin in the 100 free (1:12.16) and Erin Jackson in the 100 back (1:13.85).
