CHRISTIANSBURG — Millbrook sophomore Lindsay Fairbanks placed third in the 500-yard freestyle and fifth in the 200 freestyle to help the Pioneers finish in 11th place at the 4A state swim championship at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Friday.

Fairbanks took third in five minutes, 17.88 seconds in the 500 free, and placed fifth in 2:00.03 in the 200 free. She also teamed with Taylor Linder, Sarah Jeffries and Abbey Esslinger to place sixth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:58.57.

Esslinger placed sixth (2:16.41) in the 200 individual medley.

Jamestown won the girls’ team title with 347 points. Tabb (205) finished as the runner-up, and Heritage (195) took third. Millbrook (88.5) came in 11th, James Wood (47) placed 16th, Sherando (14) finished 21st and Handley (five) came in 23rd.

James Wood’s Zoe Schopick came in eighth (2:26.64) in the 200 I.M., and Erin Jackson placed eighth (1:04.51) in the 100 back.

Grafton won the boys’ team title with 265 points to defeat runner-up Jamestown (235) by 30. King George (176) followed in third.

James Wood, led by senior Conor Babington’s runner-up performances in both the 50 free (21.85) and 100 fly (51.99), came in 17th with 34 points. Handley (18) came in 24th, Millbrook (six) took 30th and Sherando (five) followed in 31st.
