4A West Region Swimming Tournament

FAIRFAX — Sherando High School’s boys’ swim team took seventh place with 136 points at the 4A West Region swim championship at the George Mason Freedom Aquatic Center on Saturday.

Daniel Milburn placed fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:04.84) and ninth in the 500 free (5:07.10), and Ethan Medrano took sixth in the 100 free (50.78) and came in eighth in the 50 free (23.42) to pace the Warriors.

Sherando’s Jeremy Linaburg took fifth in the 100 breast (1:04.78) and Mathew Pham placed eighth in same event (1:05.74).

The Warrior boys 200 medley relay team of Milburn, Linaburg, David Restrepo and Medrano took fifth (1:45.16) and the 400 free relay team of Pham, Medrano, Milburn and Restrepo came in eighth (3:29.89).

Handley’s Carter Watts took seventh in the 50 free (23.36) and eighth in the 100 free (52.11) to pace the Judges to 17th place with 47 points, and Millbrook’s Patrick Northrup came in 10th in the 500 free (5:14.66) as the Pioneers finished 21st with 12 points.

Jefferson Forest won the boys’ meet with 2461/2 points. John Champe (200), Loudoun County (179), Freedom (150) and Woodgrove (147) rounded out the top five in the 23-team meet. James Wood’s boys finished 23rd.

In the girls’ meet, Millbrook’s Abbey Esslinger took second in the 200 I.M. (2:14.69) and fifth in the 100 fly (1:02.40) to pace the Pioneers to eighth place with 117 points.

Millbrook’s Lindsay Fairbanks took fifth in both the 200 free (2:02.99) and 500 free (5:26.80).

Esslinger, Fairbanks, Eliza Grigsby and Taylor Linder placed sixth in the 200 medley relay (2:03.08). The Pioneer girls 400 free relay team of Esslinger, Erin Dooley, Linder and Fairbanks came in eighth (3:57.09).

James Wood’s Zoe Schopick came in eighth in the 100 fly (1:03.65), and Erin Jackson took 10th in the 100 back (1:07.05). James Wood placed 13th with 55 points.

Handley’s Kenzie Fergus took fourth in the 500 free (5:26.64) and sixth in the 100 back (1:04.14). The Judges finished 14th with 47 points. Sherando’s Abigail Sears took seventh in the 100 breast (1:13.34), helping the Warrior girls place 17th with 18 points.

Heritage won the girls’ meet with 249 points. Rock Ridge (234), Woodgrove (218), Jefferson Forest (209) and Freedom (202) completed the top five.

Individuals in the top 10 and the top eight relays advance to the Group 4A state meet in Richmond on Saturday.

Individuals and relays who previously achieved state-qualifying times will also go to states.
