Swimming - Colonels girls win Black & Blue Invite

WINCHESTER — The Sherando boys and the James Wood girls were each victorious at the seventh annual Black & Blue Invitational that took place on Saturday at Jim Barnett Park’s War Memorial building pool.

The Warrior boys scored 256 points to win the six-team meet. Broadway was second with 167 points, James Wood was fourth with 129 and Millbrook was fifth with 122.

Sherando received winning performances from Daniel Milburn (200-yard individual medley in 2:22.28 and 400 freestyle in 4:29.24), Ayman Ibrahim (100 free in 58.70 and 100 backstroke in 1:12.49), David Restrepo (50 free in 27.02), the 200 medley team (Milburn, Mathew Pham, Restrepo, Hunter Mayo) in 2:05.04 and the 400 free relay team (Ibrahim, Gregory Alan, Mayo, Milburn) in 4:06.50.

Milburn (meet-high 42 points), Ibrahim, Mayo and Pham each made the 15-person all-invitational team.

James Wood was led by 100-butterfly champion Brian Hua (1:05.53). Hua and teammate David Dorsey each made the all-invitational team.

Millbrook was led by 200 free champion Patrick Northrup (2:09.89), who made the all-invitational team.

The James Wood girls won with 256 points to edge Sherando (247). Millbrook was third with 154 points.

The Colonels received winning performances from Lydia Sunderlin (50 free, 30.93), Zoe Schopick (100 fly, 1:15.38), Hannah Cavanagh (400 free, 5:20.79), the 200 medley relay team (Cavanagh, Abby Fergus, Schopick, Lydia Sunderlin) in 2:25.65 and the 200 free relay team (Schopick, Taylin Crosen, Katie Sunderlin, Lydia Sunderlin) in 2:06.68.

Lydia Sunderlin and Zoe Schopick, who each scored a co-meet high 39 points, Cavanagh, Fergus, Crosen and Katie Sunderlin each made the 15-person all-invitational team.

Sherando was led by its 400 free relay champion team of Gracie Twigg, Sarah Lauer, Sydney Damico and Jordyn Jones (4:43.31). Jones, Twigg, Damico, Hannah Starustka and Anne Restrepo each made the all-invitational team.

Millbrook was led by individual winners Abbey Esslinger (100 free in 1:06.05 and 100 breaststroke in 1:23.44) and Lindsay Fairbanks (100 back in 1:16.57 and 200 free in 2:26.57). Both made the all-invitational team.
