SWIMMING - Northwestern District Swimming Meet

MANASSAS — Sherando placed second in both the girls’ and boys’ Northwestern District swimming meets held Friday at Colgan High School.

Kettle Run dominated both meets.

The Cougars totaled 156 points in the girls’ meet to finish well ahead of Sherando (119.5). Handley (71.50) placed third, while James Wood (51) and Millbrook (14) took fifth and sixth, respectively.

Kettle Run had 159 points to top the boys’ field. Sherando (81.5) took second. Handley (57), Millbrook (48) and James Wood (43) finished fourth through sixth, respectively.

The two lone area individual winners came from a pair of freshmen in the girls’ meet. James Wood’s Kimberly Warnagiris captured the 100-yard butterfly in 59.44 seconds. Sherando’s Emma De Jong topped the field in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.37.

Jordyn Jones (5:37.49 in the 500 freestyle) and Kyra Schultz (2:21.71 in the 200 individual medley) had runner-up finishes for the Warriors. Warnagiris also placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:00.11). Kenzi Fergus’ second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.27) was Handley’s top finish.

Ayman Ibrahim paced the Sherando boys, taking second in the 50 freestyle (22.74) and 100 freestyle (49.82).

Jackson Sitton took second in the 200 freestyle (1:51.31) to lead Handley. Patrick Northrup was second in the 500 freestyle (5:18.22) to pace Millbrook. Brian Hua’s third-place finish in the 100 butterfly (55.97) led James Wood.

The top eight individual swimmer and the top four relay teams advance to 4C regional competition at the Warrenton Aquatics Center on Friday.
