Wood swims to road wins

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — James Wood High School’s swim teams swept Hedgesville (W.Va.) in Thursday night’s dual meet at the Shepherd University Wellness Center.

The Colonel boys beat the Eagles 93-69, and James Wood’s girls won 105-59.

James Wood’s Emalee Firestein won the 200 yard freestyle (2:05.87) and the 500 free (5:34.82), posting state-qualifying times in each. Alex Lew won the 50 free (27.08) and the 100 free (1:10), and Kaye Whitacre won the 200 individual medley (2:33.79) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.19) with a state time.

The Colonels’ Kevin Carver posted wins in the 200 free (2:03.13) and the 100 free with a state time of 51.67. James Wood’s Greg Anderson won the 100 back (1:09.79) and the 100 fly (1:07.85).
