Area Briefs: Wood Softball Routs Skyline, 14-3

FRONT ROYAL — The James Wood softball team had five different players tally three hits and scored in all seven innings in a 14-3 rout of defending Northwestern District champion Skyline Thursday.

The Colonels (2-3, 1-1) scored five runs in the seventh, two runs apiece in the second, third and fifth innings and a run each in the first and fourth.

Junior pitcher Kierstyn Peacoe went all seven innings in the circle, striking out nine while allowing eight hits and walking three.

Peacoe did it at the plate also, hammering two home runs as part of a 2-for-3 day with three RBIs. Teammate Sara Hoover finished 3 for 5 with four RBIs and James Wood totaled 20 hits in the win.

Skyline (3-3, 1-1) was without senior ace Sarah Beamer for the game.
