Adrienne Patrick was named the Class 4 Coach of the Year for Virginia High School League volleyball for the fourth straight year on Wednesday after guiding James Wood to its fourth consecutive state title.
Colonels seniors Kennedy Spaid and Brenna Corbin were each selected to the Class 4 All-State First Team for the fourth time. Millbrook junior Aaliyah Green and Handley sophomore Breeze Johnson are All-State honorees for the first time, with Green earning First Team honors and Johnson being placed on the Second Team.
Patrick led James Wood to a program record for wins in a 30-2 season. The Colonels defeated Loudoun County 3-1 in the state final. In the semifinals, James Wood beat Courtland and Class 4 Player of the Year Aubrey Parker, a senior setter who will play for NCAA Division II Shepherd University in West Virginia next year. This was the last year coaching the Colonels for Patrick, who is now an assistant principal at Millbrook.
Spaid — the Class 4 Player of the Year in 2023 and 2024 — led the Colonels in kills per set (4.9). She added 2.9 digs per set and 65 aces. Spaid will play beach volleyball for NCAA Division I Arizona State University next year.
During the regular season, Corbin led the area in aces. For the season, she had 96. Corbin also averaged 3.7 digs and 2.9 kills per set. She will play indoor volleyball for NCAA Division I James Madison University next year.
Green — the Class 4 Northwestern District Player of the Year — led the area in kills during the regular season and averaged 5.4 kills per set. She also had 2.95 digs per set. Green has verbally committed to NCAA Division I University of Connecticut. Green is one of only two juniors on the 10-player First Team.
Johnson led the Judges in kills per set (3.8), digs per set (3.6) and aces (63). Johnson is the only sophomore All-State selection in Class 4 and one of five non-seniors out of the 20 total selections.
