WINCHESTER — “The scholastic football season comes to an end this weekend with what is expected to be the most exciting game of all. Some call it the ‘Dream Game’ and others say it’s the ‘Game of the Decade.’ The battle of the unbeatens, James Wood and Handley, no doubt will go down as the ‘Game of the Season’ in Northern Virginia.”
“I think at the beginning of the season if you’d asked any coach in our district where the district championship goes through, it’s Stephens City,” Bolin said. “You’ve got to knock off Sherando before you even try to stake a claim to anything.”
Handley’s upset over the Warriors on Sept. 27 meant it, too, had a chance to run the table in the Northwestern District. And until today, both teams have held up their end of the bargain. Handley’s only loss came to Park View, and James Wood’s to Loudoun County. They aren’t undefeated, and a playoff berth isn’t on the line (each is in good shape in its respective division), but the Northwestern District title is up for grabs and neither team is going after it as an underdog.
The “Dream Game,” to a great degree, is back.
