The James Wood Athletic Association was formed in 1954. Paul Beable (Principal of James Wood High School) and Archie Manuel (Athletic Director) met with Godfrey Prelip on his farm about securing lights for the James Wood Stadium. Thus, an organization called the James Wood Touchdown Club was organized. The name was later changed to the James Wood Athletic Club and today is known as the James Wood Athletic Association with the primary purpose of assisting the athletes and the Athletic Program at James Wood High School.
