BEALETON — James Wood won for the third time in four games and earned a season split with a win over Liberty on Monday.
The Colonels (6-15) played their third game in a row without Brodie Sirbaugh, who suffered a season-ending injury last week against Kettle Run.
James Wood led 18-16 after one quarter, 32-28 at the half and 37-35 after three quarters. The Colonels took the lead for good at 51-48 on an Ashby Copenhaver 3-pointer with 1:51 left, then took a 53-50 lead with 5.1 seconds remaining on an Aidric Yurish free throw. Liberty had one final chance on an inbound pass with 1.5 seconds remaining, but air-balled a turnaround 3-pointer from the right wing.
James Wood leaders: Copenhaver, Mike Bell 14 points each; Yurish 11 points.
