WINCHESTER — Freshman Addy Ellison hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the North No. 2 James Wood High School softball team to a 4-3 win over North No. 3 Liberty on Monday in the Region 4D quarterfinals.
The Colonels (16-6) will host North No. 5 Millbrook (11-9) — a 3-1 winner over North No. 1 Sherando on Monday — at 6 p.m. in Wednesday’s semifinals.
With the score 3-3, Kayleigh Harden (3 for 4, two RBIs) doubled to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning for James Wood. After a popout, Aubrey Nail moved Harden to third with a sacrifice bunt. Ellison (1 for 3, walk) then ended the game with a line-drive single to left field.
Liberty scored two runs in the top of the first, then James Wood took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the frame. A two-run single by Harden tied the game and Gabby Madagan (2 for 3) drove her in with a single to center to make it 3-2. The Eagles tied the game with a run in the top of the sixth inning.
