WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University Head Football Coach Paul Barnes announced Friday a class of 61 student-athletes that he and his staff have recruited for the 2010-11 academic year.

The class of 61 includes natives of six different states with 43 of the incoming players coming from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Five:  Jason Hartsook, Brock Lockhart, Andrew Lloyd, Corey Rice and Jeff Taylor, are from the local area. Lloyd, a kicker/punter who enrolled at SU in January and went through spring practice with the team, was a 2008 All-State selection as a senior at James Wood High School in Winchester after making 33 of 34 field goals and averaging over 40 yards per punt.

Lloyd is expected to compete for the placekicking, kickoff and punting jobs.

Lockhart, a former prep teammate of Lloyd, was a three-sport star at Wood. In his senior season, he rushed for 2,016 yards and 20 touchdowns in football, averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in hoops and batted .327 with six doubles and nine RBIs for the Colonels baseball squad.

Lockhart earned All-Northwestern District honors in all three sports and was an All-State selection in football.

He plans to play both football and baseball at SU.

The 61 newcomers will combine with 72 returnees to form the 2010 team. If all 133 players report to camp, it will be the largest group to start practice at SU since the program was started in 2000.

Shenandoah opens its 11th season of intercollegiate football on September 4 at home with a non-league game against Catholic University of America.
