It didn’t take long before the James Wood High School football coach stopped and threw his math aside. “I said, ‘Heck, I just want to beat Handley,’” Bolin said. Both the Colonels (8-1, 6-0 Northwestern District) and Judges (7-1, 5-0) are likely to return to the postseason this fall, but there’s much more at stake when the local rivals square off at 7 p.m. tonight at Jerry L. Kelican Stadium. James Wood can clinch its first district championship since 1980. With a victory Handley would remain in the driver’s seat for the outright title and clinch at worst a tie for first place. The winner will also take home the Barr-Lindon Crimson Apple, awarded by The Winchester Star to the Winchester/Frederick County team with the best record in head-to-head competition. |
