Recent James Wood High School graduate Kallie Gyurisin has signed to swim next year for NCAA Division II Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland.
Gyurisin is a three-time Winchester Star All-Area Selection, including a First Team pick as a junior and senior. As a senior, Gyurisin ranked second in the area in the 100-yard freestyle (57.74 seconds) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.56). At the Region 4D meet, she placed fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 100 breast. At the Class 4 state meet, Gyurisin was 21st in the 100 free and 23rd in the 100 breast.
The Bobcats went 6-2 in dual meets last year, including 4-0 in the Mountain East Conference. Frostburg State won its fourth straight MEC title at this year’s MEC/GMAC meet and placed fourth overall among the 10 schools that competed from the two conferences.
Gyurisin will major in exercise and sports science. Her plan after college is to become an occupational therapist.
