THE PLAINS — James Wood senior Kate Konyar took second place out of 135 runners to lead the Colonels’ girls’ cross country team to sixth place on Saturday at the Dave Davis Invitational at Great Meadow.
Konyar — the 2024 Class 4 runner-up — recorded a 3.1-mile time of 18 minutes and 54 seconds to finish only behind defending Class 3 state champion Samantha Nitzsche, a junior at William Monroe (18:35).
Loudoun Valley won the meet that featured 15 complete teams with 65 points, with Colonial Forge taking second with 87. James Wood scored 142 points.
Albemarle won the 20-team boys’ race with 81 points, and Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology was second with 129. James Wood was 14th with 395. Riverside’s Thomas Rae won the 178-runner boys’ race by 23 seconds in 15:57.
