Wood beats Sherando in home match

WINCHESTER– The James Wood High School golf team shot five strokes better than Sherando to win a tri match against the Warriors and Washington (W.Va.) Monday at Rock Harbor.

The Colonels finished with a 338, besting a Sherando team (343) that had topped all local squads at the Licklider Invitational and won the first Northwestern District mini tournament last week.

Washington finished with a four-player score of 368.

Dylan McKee led James Wood with an 81, which matched Sherando’s Chris Slater and Washington’s Ryan Mumaw for low medalist honors.

Corey Cochran (84), Kyle Hevner (86) and Will Holmes (87) also factored in the scoring for the Colonels.

Sherando got an 82 from Cameron Wiseman, an 89 from Kolby Madigan, and a 91 from Cory Hammons.

The Colonels and Warriors compete in the second district mini today at Shenandoah Valley Country Club beginning at 9 a.m.
