Longerbeam capture district crown

WINCHESTER — Handley High School freshman Britani Myers and James Wood senior Darin Longerbeam put their 800-meter skills on display in 
Thursday’s Northwestern District cross country meet.
Myers notched her second big win of the season on the 3.1-mile Kernstown Battlefield course and Longerbeam turned in his best performance of the season by taking the overall title in the boys’ race.
Myers and Longerbeam made it an area sweep of individual titles, but Brentsville swept the team titles with convincing wins in both the boys’ and girls’ races. Brentsville’s boys defeated runner-up Sherando 60-75 and the Tigers’ girls won 40-69 over second-place Millbrook.
