Hawkins 10th at Octoberfest

THE PLAINS — James Wood senior Amber Hawkins finished 10th overall at the Octoberfest Invitational at Great Meadow Saturday.

Hawkins finished with a time of 19 minutes, 12 seconds in the Varsity A race that featured 38 girls’ cross country teams. Hawkins led the Colonels to 30th place with 722 points. Brittany Arnold (22:08), Madeline Long (22:33), Molly Farinholt (23:33) and Ellen Legge (24:27) completed James Wood’s top five.
Millbrook, led by freshman Nadia Dahimene who came in 41st (20:29) overall, finished 26th with 668 points. Rylee Learn (21:25), Hannah Croyle (22:15), Madeline Treiber (22:30) and Ansleigh White (24:11) rounded out the Pioneers’ team scoring.

Blacksburg won the A race with 116 points. Battlefield (183) and James W. Robinson (197) rounded out the top three. Tuscarora led Region II teams in sixth place with 247 points.

In the boys’ A race, James Wood finished 21st out of 40 teams. Senior Danny Aldstadt finished 18th overall in 16:37. Luke Farinholt (17:45), Andrew Shade (18:02), Mark Bohler (18:14) and Kieran Orndorff (19:11) rounded out Wood’s top five.

Millbrook finished 28th with junior Nathan Burgreen (17:36) pacing the Pioneers in 83rd place. Tyler Cox-Philyaw (18:05), Max Bader (18:27), Bruce Keenan (18:30) and Garrett Bloodworth (18:39) all finished within 34 seconds of each other.

Chantilly won the boys’ A race with 58 points. Blacksburg (103) finished as the runner-up, and Battlefield (144) took third.

In the Varsity B race, Clarke County senior Zach Campbell finished as the runner-up (16:41), crossing the finish line just one second behind winner Dylan Freeman of Falls Church.

Matt Dietz (17:43), Isaac Weintz (19:53), Daniel York (20:02) and Travis Fairman (20:23) followed Campbell to help Clarke place 17th out of 35 teams.

Clarke County’s girls’ team finished 16th out of 19 teams. Mackenzie Kibler finished 27th overall (21:53) to pace the Eagles. Hayley Botts (23:13), Rachel Dors (24:08), Amy Legare (24:31) and Eve Lettau (25:31) completed the Eagles’ top five. Richard Montgomery won the Varsity B girls’ and boys’ races.
