District XC Mini Meet

WINCHESTER — The Handley girls and the Skyline boys each placed first at the second Northwestern District mini meet Wednesday at James Wood High School.
In the girls’ race, Handley had seven of the top 12 finishers and scored 23 points to beat James Wood (52), Sherando (80), Millbrook (107) and Skyline (117).
James Wood’s Sophia Dorsey won individually with a time of 22 minutes and 9 seconds, and she was followed individually by Handley’s Ellie Selzer (second in 22:31), Nicole King (third in 22:32), Ruthie Rosenfeld (fourth in 22:33) and Sydney Aschenbrenner (fifth in 22:44). Elise Smith rounded out Handley’s scoring by taking ninth (23:31).
In addition to Dorsey, James Wood was led by Claire Bright (sixth in 23:02) and Autumn Hottle (13th in 23:43). Sherando was led by Haley Powers (seventh in 23:21), Emily Askew (12th in 23:34) and Gillian Liedke (14th in 23:55). Millbrook was led by McKenzie Schrank (eighth in 23:29).
In the boys’ meet, Skyline had 33 points, James Wood 51, Sherando 63, Handley 68 and Millbrook 151.
James Wood’s Andrew Shade won the boys’ race with a time of 17:55, 49 seconds ahead of Skyline runner-up Justin Haggerty (18:44).
The Colonels were also led by Max Lindquist (eighth in 19:05), Jacksen Costa (12th in 19:27) and Joseph Costello (13th in 19:38).
Sherando was also paced by Jahlil Northover (fourth in 18:55), Garrett Allegra (10th in 19:17) and Justin Hammer (14th in 19:48). Handley was led by Garrett Patnode (fifth in 18:56), John Delaney (ninth in 19:12) and Zach Foote (11th in 19:18). Millbrook was led by Jack Blazek (25th in 20:42).
Mountain View Christian Academy also ran in Wednesday’s competition. MVCA did not have enough runners to record a team score on the girls’ side. Factoring in MVCA, the top four teams on the boys’ side finished with the same number of points, but the Conquerors tied Millbrook for fifth with 164. Josh Medina paced the MVCA boys by taking 24th (20:38) and Savanna Daniels led the Conqueror girls by placing 52nd in 31:49.
