All-Area Girls’ Cross Country Team

Sophia Dorsey — James Wood — Sophomore
Earning All-Conference 21 and All-4A North Region honors, Dorsey placed fourth (19 minutes, 57 seconds) in the conference, 11th (20:22) at regionals. A two-time state qualifier, Dorsey placed 17th (19:38) at the 4A state meet. She set her season personal record of 19:26 at the Third Battle Invitational. Dorsey is The Winchester Star’s Girls’ Cross Country Runner of the Year.
Hannah Croyle — Millbrook — Junior
An All-Conference 21 performer, Croyle finished eighth (20:16) at the conference meet at Kernstown Battlefield. She finished 18th (20:30) at the 4A North Regional to qualify for the state meet for the second consecutive season. At the 4A state championship, Croyle placed 22nd overall with a new personal record time of 19:48.
Mellany Groll — Millbrook — Freshman
In her first season at Millbrook, Groll earned All-Conference 21 honors by finishing 10th (20:25) and narrowly missed earning all-region honors (by one place) by taking 16th (20:28) at the 4A North Regional at Kernstown Battlefield. A first time state qualifier, Groll finished 29th overall at the 4A state championship with a new PR of 19:59.
Paige Conner — Sherando — Freshman
Moving up to varsity after a couple JV races to start the season, Conner made an instant impact, running consistently in the team’s No. 1 spot. She earned All-Conference 21 honors by finishing fifth (20:04) and All-4A North Region honors by taking 15th (20:25). At the 4A state meet, Conner finished 63rd (20:51). Her season PR was 19:36 at the Third Battle Invitational.
Nicole King — Handley — Sophomore
Part of a solid 1-2 combination for the Judges, King finished as the Conference 23 runner-up (20:36) to help Handley take second at the conference meet on their home course at Kernstown Battlefield. She placed 35th (21:05) at the 4A North Regional. King’s set her season PR of 20:24 at the Carlisle (Pa.) Invitational.
Ellie Selzer — Handley — Senior
Finishing consistently as either the Judges’ No. 1 or No. 2 runner, Selzer earned All-Conference 23 honors by taking seventh (21:07). She led the Judges in 25th (20:46) at the 4A North Regional. Handley finished seventh at regionals, losing a tiebreaker for sixth place. Selzer set her PR of 20:04 at the Third Battle Invitational.
Maria Harter — James Wood — Sophomore
Earning All-Conference 21 honors, Harter, who ran consistently as the Colonels’ No. 2 runner, finished seventh in the conference with a time of 20:16 to advance to the 4A North Regional. She did not finish the regional because of an illness. Her PR for the season was 19:57.
