All-Area Boys’ Cross Country Team

Tyler Cox-Philyaw — Millbrook — Junior
Earning all-conference, all-region and all-state honors, Cox-Philyaw finished as the runner-up at both the Conference 21 (16:12) and 4A North Regional (16:10) as the Pioneers swept the team titles. He finished third (15:39) at the 4A state meet. He set his season personal record of 15:29 by finishing 25th overall at the Foot Locker South Regional. Cox-Philyaw is The Winchester Star’s Boys’ Cross Country Runner of the Year.
Alec Schrank — Millbrook — Sophomore
An All-Conference 21, All-4A North Region and All-State performer, Schrank won the Conference 21 championship with a time of 15:56. He placed third (16:15) at the 4A North Regional and took fifth (setting a new personal record of 15:50) at the 4A state meet where the Pioneers placed fifth. Schrank placed fourth (15:57) in the sophomore race at the Foot Locker South Regional.
Aaron Arslan — Handley — Junior
Finishing as the Conference 23 champion with a time of 16:08, Arslan also earned all-region honors by finishing 13th (16:57) at the 4A North Region meet where he led the Judges to third place. At the 4A state meet, Arslan took 14th (16:23) to lead the Judges to sixth-place as a team. He took 54th with a new PR of 15:45 at the Foot Locker South Regional.
Andrew Shade — James Wood — Senior
In his final season for the Colonels, Shade took home honors in all three postseason races, earning All-Conference 21 honors (fifth, 16:51), All-4A North Region honors (seventh, 16:52) and All-4A state honors (10th, 16:19, setting a new PR) in his first time as a state qualifier. He consistently filled the No. 1 spot for the Colonels.
Trevor Whiteside — Sherando — Junior
An All-Conference 21 performer, Whiteside led the way for the Warriors in all three postseason races, finishing seventh (17:01) in the conference and 23rd (17:13) at the 4A North Regional to help Sherando take fourth to qualify for the state meet. At the 4A state meet, Whiteside placed 21st (16:37 — a PR) to pace Sherando to seventh place. The Warriors placed second in the conference, fourth at regionals and seventh at state.
Garrett Bloodworth — Millbrook — Senior
Earning All-Conference 21 honors, Bloodworth, the lone senior in the Pioneers’ top seven, placed ninth (17:03) at the conference meet at Kernstown Battlefield. He finished 44th (17:48) at the 4A North Regional and 35th (16:57 — a PR) at the 4A state meet where the Pioneers placed fifth at Great Meadow.
Garrett Patnode — Handley — Senior
A steady No. 2 runner for the Judges, Patnode earned All-Conference 23 honors by placing seventh (17:16) at the conference meet on his home course at Kernstown Battlefield. He placed 34th (17:30) at the 4A North Regional and 33rd (16:57) at the 4A state meet. He set his season PR (16:55) at the adidas XC Challenge on Sept. 20.
