Wood Boys, Girls Second, Handley Boys Fourth In Cross Country Meet

ROMNEY, W.Va. — James Wood placed second in both the boys’ and girls divisions and Handley was fourth in the boys’ event at the Hampshire Invitational cross country meet on Friday.

Jefferson won the boys’ title with 52 points. Wood (65), Somerset (115) and Handley (135) followed.

Jacksen Costa led the Colonels with a time of 16 minutes, 51 seconds over the 3.0-mile course. Max Lindquist (8th, 17:07), Josh Dansie (14th, 17:40), Kevin Konyar (18th, 17:54) and Aaron Curd (19th, 17:56) rounded out the Wood scorers.

Handley’s John Delaney led all local finishers by placing third in 16:21. He finished five seconds behind the top finisher. Casey Marchant (17th, 17:50), Noah Johnstone (24th, 18:31), Brian Tufts (30th, 18:36) and Jack Applin (56th, 19:56) rounded out the Judges’ scorers.

In the girls’ meet, James Wood tied for first place with Hampshire, which won the title on a tiebreaker.

Sophia Dorsey and Autumn Hottle hit the line together in 19:36 to finish fifth and sixth, respectively. Haley Witt (10th, 20:33), Maria Harter (12th, 20:49) and Claire Bright (19th, 21:40) completed the Colonels’ scoring.
